Art & Activism - A Black Philanthropy Month Event
Art & Activism came to life and was at the forefront of this year’s celebration in honor of Black Philanthropy Month. Recognizing that Black Philanthropy is Black History, Black culture, and Black art, tells the stories that reflect our past, present, and vision for the future, the BRIC Fund hosted 100 people at the Blair Caldwell African-American Research Library to unveil its newest art piece, Prophesy and Transcendence, by artist Dwayne Glapion that reflects the history and the symbolism of the Colorado Black experience. In addition, the BRIC Fund was presented with a $10,000 donation from Javon Brame, BRIC Board Vice Chair and Founder of The Art of Giving Fund, partnering to cultivate the Black arts ecosystem in Colorado.
In understanding that the power of the arts brings communities together, the BRIC Fund has been elevating the presence of the arts throughout its brand and work - from featuring community murals, amplifying voices through spoken word, highlighting how dance has created a movement of change, and the exploration of Black literature to build community dialogue. “We can tell our stories the best and believe the arts are the beacon of the Black narrative to open conversations, teach, and help foster understanding of each other’s journey,” explained the BRIC Fund Board Chair, Yvonne Moore. “More importantly, activism through the arts has historically been instrumental in challenging systemic oppression, dismantling racial barriers, and advocating for justice and equality.”
